Contraception and Sexual Health
All our GPs can offer advice about contraception. Some patients may be referred on to see GPs with a special interest for services such as coil or implant fitting. Contraceptive options include various types of contraceptive pills and longer acting methods, such as the depo-injection, implant, and coils. See your GP to find the right method for you. All forms of contraception are free to patients under the age of twenty-one.

Emergency Contraception
If you are concerned about having had unprotected sex or a failure of contraception and need emergency contraception, then please book in as an urgent appointment as emergency contraception works more reliably the earlier it is given. Options include oral methods (a tablet to swallow) or a copper coil (which is actually the most effective method).Your GP can advise which method would be recommended in your situation. Free emergency contraception is available at all our surgeries to under-21s.

Termination of pregnancy
We know that not all pregnancies are planned and sometimes you may feel that continuing a pregnancy is not the right thing for you. Please come in as soon as possible to see one of our GPs if you find yourself in this situation and we can help to support you in making the right decision for you. Counselling is also available – see the link below. In Guernsey, the Medical Specialist Group can provide termination of pregnancy up to 24 weeks gestation and you will need to be referred in via your GP.

Sexual Health
We offer comprehensive advice about any sexual health problem including concerns about sexually transmitted infections (STIs). STIs can easily pass from person to person, especially if you have unprotected sexual contact and not knowing if either of you have an infection. If left untreated they can cause problems in the future, such as infertility problems in women and prostate and testicular problems in men. The tests are easy to perform, and the treatments are usually simple. Sometimes you may be referred on to the Orchard Clinic if further testing or more specialised advice is required. Rest assured our team will treat your problem with sensitivity and confidentiality so do not hesitate to discuss any concerns.
